4pm Bullinger Square

4pm Bullinger Square

A woman returning home to Switzerland bumps into a familiar face in a town square. Max Wuchner directs “4pm Bullinger Square,” a black and white portrait reckoning with the past and an unsettled future—cities morph while youth fades. Back from London, almost 7 years have passed since she was last in Zurich. Much has changed, and the old sights of Bullingerplatz are no more. Yuppie cyclists, new parents, and a trendy cafe litter the scene. Finally, something recognizable—Kerim, an old friend, rides by. As rain starts to fall, they share smokes underneath an overpass ruminating about their lives and forgotten adolescence. The woman shares that the visit might be longer than temporary, and despite the restlessness of her return, realizes it’s long overdue. For one moment, the film breaks into an intimate voiceover where we hear the unnamed character recall the neighborhood, its history and her history with it. Crafted with strong visuals and mellow dialogue, Wuchner delivers a sentimental piece built around the striking presence of its lead actor, Tilde von Overbeck. -JM. Director: Max Wuchner.
