An acting class and its bold leader rumble and rise within the walls of a New York City building. Solange Sai directs “Acting Class,” a vivid, black-and-white snapshot documenting an ensemble of studying actors and their emotional exhaustion. The filmmaker rides the R train to Midtown. She enters the building where other members are already mingling in eager anticipation ahead of their performances. Class starts, and we’re left to observe musical solos into scenes dramatic enough where they demand tears. Discussion, criticism and vulnerability go hand-in-hand. Shaky and shot at the hip, Sai gives us close access to the intimacy and inspiring insights shared between peers and their wildly-committed teacher. -JM. Director: Solange Sai.
