A nine-year-old loner wants his brother to teach him how to play the trumpet—a request that’s not so simple given the obstacles of New Orleans’s 7th Ward. Megan Trufant Tillman directs “little trumpet,” a drama following a young boy as he balances his own early interests while living with a distraught older brother and protective mother. It hasn’t been too long since the death of Javon’s second older brother, and a disconnect in the family seems apparent. Not only do the emotional tensions of Javon’s heartbroken mother seem to fall on his shoulders, Javon’s other older brother, Dame, also seems to have found his own perilous outlets from the family. Spanning at around 25 minutes, "Little Trumpet" offers a somber, paced glimpse into the young man’s world. The film embraces a cinematic point of view and atmosphere but bears an emotional weight and tone earnest to the circumstances. -JM. Director: Megan Trufant Tillman. Cast: Kemetrick Thomas II, K.
