On the anniversary of his father’s death, Tariq dedicates a dance to him, triggering childhood memories. “Muscle Memory,” directed by Saladin White II, is a poignant tone poem about fatherhood presented in vignettes of the present day and flashbacks. We follow Tariq, himself a father to a young boy, through an emotional day. He finds himself in a public park to commemorate his dad through a tap-dance routine. Visions float through his head of being a kid and striving to find rhythm and earn his own dance shoes. The film finds catharsis in looking back -- its key resonance is in the specific manner which it conveys past and present in one piece. -KA. Director: Saladin White II.
