After an accident leaves his sketchy uncle injured, a young man feels obligated to let him stay with him and his girlfriend. “Pierre the Great,” directed by Kiyan Ahmadi, is a claustrophobic, domestic dramedy set in Los Angeles. Vintage Iranian tunes ring as Pierre, a grizzly, middle-aged man, plays poker with a friend while crashing with his nephew, Omar. We soon learn that Omar’s girlfriend has accused Pierre of acting inappropriately with her. When the girlfriend returns, drunk and still in a fit, the demand for a resolution intensifies. The film is built around compelling performances and an interior world, shot on film, made of amber hues. -JM.
