An independent “VTuber” encounters a series of eccentric strangers as she tries to make money for rent. Zane Kordich directs “I Want Everyone to Like Me,” a hangout comedy following a young women’s lo-fi odyssey through a Canadian suburb. Jules is staying in a friend’s basement but is unemployed and months behind on rent. She got fired from Home Depot recently and spends most of her day VTubing as a fictional anime character, “Princess Yo.” Met with the circumstances, Jules bounces from one impromptu interaction to the next, all with the hope of sourcing $200. She films a local YouTuber at a children’s playground, pretends to be a stranger’s friend, and performs an improvised song at a house show. Captured in shaky close-ups, Julia Poirier (Jules) brings a warm presence set against snowy pavement and winter jackets. -JM. Director: Zane Kordich.
