My Creation

Comedy, Short Films, 30-Sep-2020
A young creative working on an animation portfolio receives feedback from a friend and a stranger. Matt Barats and Andrew Tisher write and star in “My Creation,” a farcical comedy which highlights two radically different responses to an artist’s work. Dennis is passionate (perhaps overly so) about his kids show concept, “The Funny Farm Friends” and beholds his crude animal pictures as precious works of art. He’s both tremendously proud (“It’s myyy creation,” he sings in the show’s intro), and insecure about showing it to others. At a coffee shop with an old college friend, he’s encouraged to keep at it (“it really looks like they’re walking,” the old friend says in describing the animation). But things change when his pal leaves to go to his real job, and a cold-hearted business traveler with a wheeled suitcase (played by NB fav Blair Beeken) rudely knocks into his table, leading to a confrontation. Directed by Doron Max Hagay (a NoBudge hall-of-famer who now directs for SNL), “My Creation” is silly fun but also satirizes the plight of the self-serious artist, and the perceptions of artistic endeavors from those outside a supportive bubble. We recently featured Barats with a guided tour of his home state and upbringing in “Here We Have Idaho.” -KA. Written by Matt Barats and Andrew Tisher. Starring Matt Barats, Andrew Tisher and Blair Beeken. Directed by Doron Max Hagay. Cinematography by Wilson Cameron. Sound Recording by Frank Flaherty. Edited by Michael Mezzina. Music by Woo.
