Georgia's Line

Georgia's Line

Georgia spends each winter living in a commune in the woods, but when her daughter and granddaughter return home to Vermont, her role in the family unit comes into question. Jo Dery directs “Georgia’s Line,” a quiet character study on family, built with vivid specificity and sense of place. Georgia's daughter, Robin, aims to re-establish a connection with her mother, but it's challenged by Georgia’s desire for solitude and her choice to take a vow of silence. Robin's daughter yearns to spend time with her grandmother, but Georgia is unwilling to budge on her austere lifestyle. Dery’s approach is characterized with rawness and restraint, and the film sprouts subtle profundity with its unconventional mother/daughter dynamic, philosophical underpinnings, and lovely winter tableaus. -KA.
