Ready For Love

Amber Lynn Weatherbee knows that the right man is out there and she’s determined to find him by getting cast on “The Bachelor.” Told entirely through audition tapes sent into the popular TV show, “Ready for Love,” is a profound character study of our times, funny but also surprisingly heartbreaking, about the dreams and delusions of an average American woman searching for the thing she’s been told exists - the perfect man. Directors Dylan Pasture and Lauren McCune use the brilliant conceit to mine for deep character revelations documenting shifting life goals, expectations, and family life. Of course, on the surface it’s all smiles and charm (anything to appeal to TV casting directors), masking personal pain and increasing desperation. We get to know a lot about Amber Lynn through her tapes, life details the frivolous format is not supposed to reveal with any kind of emotional truth. But it does, and as the years go by, Amber’s initial TV-ready perkiness and sense of romance loses some of its luster, replaced by more practical concerns. Co-director Lauren McCune stars as Amber and the film rests entirely on her shoulders, a lively and tender, and ultimately devastating performance. Written, directed and produced by Dylan Pasture and Lauren McCune. Starring Lauren McCune. Edited by Phil Chernyak. Featuring Nancy Munger.
