Merge
A young woman decides to step outside of her comfort zone during an acting class. Dylan Pun directs “Merge,” a comedy where an ensemble of oddball actors follow an eccentric instructor to reach their breakthroughs. Arri arrives at the workshop; it’s her first time with the group. Folks stretch out and make small talk ahead of class. Nicholas, another student, eagerly breaks the ice and briefs Arri on what's to come, encouraging her to unleash her “mind palace” to reach an "unapologetic dope-ness." Joy, the instructor, arrives. “Everything you’ve performed, you’ve already done,” the leader explains. The students embark on an intense exercise where they trade wildly honest, and often horny, remarks. Joy sees a spark in Arri and asks her to lead an exercise, which is rare for a newcomer. The deliveries of the in-class dialogue are both vulnerable and hilarious. It’s a satirical embrace of acting workshops and their cult-like camaraderie. -JM. Director: Dylan Pun.
