Two musicians get lost on their way to a gig in New Jersey, or is it all in their heads? Directed by Taylor Ervin, “Shark Muscle” is an experimental musical odyssey, a visual accompaniment to the recent album of the same name from the NYC duo, Tony or Tony. Its layered approach emphasizes moods and motifs, repeating lines of dialogue, extreme zoomed-in close-ups and musical interludes. At its center are the two Tonys, Tony 1 and Tony Z, on their way to play a show if they can find the venue, and make it past the creepy door man. Pumped full of details — an innocent looking young couple at a diner flips through an old nudie magazine while a thin man in an oversized suit discusses entrepreneurial opinions — it’s a stylistically expressive voyage into the avant-garde carried by oddly catchy indie pop tunes and the naturally charismatic Tonys. We previously featured Ervin with “Art Boy,” a sharp-edged depiction of a NYC art scene where the art is a second tier concern over the lifestyles and personas behind the scenes. -KA. Director: Taylor Ervin. Cast: Tony 1, Tony Z, Paul Lemaire, Alex Wolfe, Iris Kim, Derrek, Emily Schubert, Fais, Grace. Director of Photography: Cory Hill. Producer: Adam Newcomer. Costume Designer: Emily Schubert.
