After falling down a YouTube fitness rabbit hole, a woman dives deep into a new obsession. Marissa Losoya’s “Beyond Failure” is a comedic docu-fictional study of a spontaneous foray into sculpting a new ass. What starts as a simple online search for stretches to fix her lower back becomes an all-encompassing pursuit to transform her figure. After landing on a hip-thrust routine requiring a constant intake of unseasoned chicken breast recovery meals, she pushes past physical limits to get the ass she needs to start her new life. However, the obstacles are inescapable and Marissa’s mother is more than willing to cast doubt. Overflowing with deadpan details and a kinetic editing style, Losoya’s film is delivered as a rambling train of thought that’s hilarious and uncomfortably real. -JM. Director, writer, DP, editor: Marissa Losoya. Cast: Marissa Losoya, JoAnn Losoya.
