A narcissistic woman gives an insincere apology after creating a deepfake video of her brother-in-law for her social issue documentary. Brooke Bundy and Jerzy Rose direct “Deepfake Apology Video,” a darkly comedic two-hander about the irresponsible behavior of a wannabe filmmaker. Joy sets up a backyard meeting with Paul to apologize, insisting she was in a state of trauma as she resorted to faking an interview with Paul accusing his boss of fraud and mismanagement. The childish Joy has no patience for a response other than a hasty exoneration. When Paul refuses to sign away his rights to sue, Joy ups the ante with a blackmail attempt. Carried by two powerhouse performances by Bundy and Jared Larson, the film is both brilliantly simple and elaborate, concocted as a rolling battle of pathetic scheming and epic tirades. -KA. Directors/Writers: Jerzy Rose & Brooke Bundy. Cast: Brooke Bundy, Jared Larson, Tipper Newton, Nigel DeFriez. DP: Jerzy Rose & Alex Mechanik. Sound: Jake Robinson. Edit & Color: Jerzy Rose. Post sound: Joseph Calleiro.
