At the apex of California’s fire season, 16-year-old Mae is watched by a ghost whose gaze blurs lust and violation. Chloe Xtina directs “Ghost of You,” an elliptical slice-of-life portrait composed of a series of poetic fragments. Living in a secluded cabin in the woods with her sisters, Mae pines for youthful excitement while contending with a mysterious intrusion. As air quality levels reach dangerous levels, concern is elevated but Mae is lost in another realm altogether, a confluence of desire and dismay. It’s a film rendered in small details and mood, elusive yet penetrating. We previously featured Xtina with her 2020 short, “The First Taste.” -KA. Writer/Director: Chloe Xtina, Cast: Lucy Parks Urbano, Sophie Nenn, Rebekah Raphling, DP: Michelle Jihyon Kim, Editor: Lauren Rothery, Composer: Mikaela Jane, Producers: Charlie Stuip, Alyssa Bonfigli, Claudia E. Rodriguez, Anna Mader.
