Drama, Short Films, 30-Aug-2022
After spending the day hanging out and playing video games, unexpected tension bubbles up between two young friends as they flip through an issue of Penthouse magazine. Max Tullio directs “In Our Secret Penthouse,” a coming-of-age vignette about childhood innocence, teen masculinity and sexual awakening. Once his mom goes to sleep, Derek brings out the old pornographic magazine to flip through with his friend, Blake. The kids have differing reactions to the explicit photos and it leads to an awkward exchange. We featured Tullio last year with “Más Bowls” about a high school quiz competition and the prize money that would help pay for an abortion. Along with his 2018 short, “Hot Boys. Gun Boys. Dead Boys.” — a tense slow burn about lust and violence — Tullio has established an impressive versatility. -KA. Director, writer: Max Tullio. Producer: Heather Francis. Producer: Gabby Johnson. Cinematographer: Akiva Henig. Assistant Camera: Patrick Naremore. Unit Production Manager: Eva Smittle. Cast: Daniel Lee, Santiago Velez.
