A group of young people in Montreal participate in a DIY dating show. Maurane presents “Love in the Mile-End,” a lo-fi satire of reality TV where contestants compete for a $500 prize by answering a series of questions about their love life. It’s an eccentric cast of skaters, unemployed lovers, construction constructors, and liberal arts post-grads. They’re prompted with questions about worst dates, deal breakers, and favorite quotes. Some participants offer direct answers indicative of their romantic philosophies, and others, particularly a recurring guest named Nathan Smith offers boozy, free-flowing rambles. Set in the Mile-End neighborhood of Montreal, the show is less focused on being an actual competition than on its playful interviews with idiosyncratic personalities. -JM.
