A teenage actress begins to reconsider her endeavors. Lola Selby directs “She’s Got Substance,” a look at a comically dysfunctional family and a fifteen-year-old’s flailing pursuit of a career in performance. Ella Blue banters and bickers with her parents at the dinner table ahead of her audition, interrupted shortly by her brother’s unhinged girlfriend banging at the door. At the audition, an off-putting casting agent, played by Joe Swanberg, and his frantic assistant deliver some harsh wisdom to Ella about what it takes to succeed as a young star. The twenty minute short goes by briskly with its sensible comedic style and earnest concluding reflection. -JM. Director: Lola Selby. Cast: Elianna Phillips, Joe Swanberg, Dee Ryan. DP: Sam Clayton. Editor + colorist : Xanthe Brown. Producers: Lauren White, Gretchen Raedle. Post producers: C. Ryan Stemple, Ana Christian.
