A mechanic in a small midwestern town would do anything to leave her boring life but she can’t seem to break free. Tipper Newton directs and stars in “The Dangerous Type,” an entertaining throwback to 80’s (and before) tropes that renders its snappy banter and B-movie characterizations with style, sincerity and commitment. Diane smokes American Checkers cigarettes, gambles with the boys after work, and dreams of getting out of this two-bit town. One day, she wins a bus ticket to California from her nemesis while gambling in a bar, but it’s never that easy. When a handsome drifter with a broken down red convertible stumbles into the garage needing help, Diane’s luck may have just turned. Predominately known as an actor, Newton crafts a perfect showcase for herself here, a charismatic, slyly funny performance, that taps joyfully into cliche without spilling into parody. -KA. Writer, Director, Editor: Tipper Newton. Starring Tipper Newton, Garret Dillahunt, Billy Flynn. Director of Photography: Jeremy Osbern. Producer: Andreina Byrne. Composer: Aaron M. Olson.
