A little girl receives a letter from Santa Claus in this short and sweet holiday film from director Eric Paschal Johnson, co-director of “Observatory Blues”. Over a series of richly melancholic 16mm compositions of a young girl lugging a Christmas tree through fields and forests, Santa narrates a letter to Helen Ann Cohoon, informing her of some unfortunate news related to his overconsumption of holiday cookies. Narrated by F. Murray Abraham, and featuring music from Sharon Van Etten, “The Letter,” is a perfect little elegy to the season, of loss and new beginnings, and Santa popping. -KA. Written and directed by Eric Paschal Johnson. Produced by Rob Douglas, J.J. Cohoon, and Cole Lederman. Starring Helen Ann Cohoon. D.P. Allison Anderson. Animation by Kyle Hurley.
