When a wealthy white man’s young black escort stops seeing him, he tries to find a replacement. “The Rentals,” directed by Nicholas Andre, is a darkly comedic snapshot of an aging man’s demand for desire and intimacy. The picture begins slightly unclear. Fred seems to be dozing off as James, his frequent escort, calls it quits. To replace him, Fred enters a trial-and-error period with others that fit his type—young black men. At some point losing faith, he gives a go at dating someone more his age before some new information puts the series of events into context. Peter Knox gives a lively performance as the lonesome, sex-driven senior, and the rolling ensemble of young men that accompany him, offer plenty of their own charisma. -JM. Director: Nicholas Andre. Cast: Peter Knox, Isaiah Boozer, Ermias Stone, Lance Spencer, Travis Lynch. Producer: Nicholas Andre, Tommy Mitchell. Director of Photography: Derek Schmitt. Intimacy Coordinator: Luzzo.
