School's Out

School's Out

Two students have to ace their next test, but will their grumpy teacher let them pass? Adam Mirajkar’s “School’s Out” is an absurd caricature of the tween sitcom and its tropes. We meet our two students, Sage and Merlin, both wearing juggalo-esque face paint as they linger in the halls of their decrepit high school. From there, we observe their cynical banter, experience a series of odd cutaway transitions, and, finally, reach the episode’s ultimate conflict: Mr. Crowley’s exam. Peculiar throughout, the film becomes increasingly absurd as it ends in a bizarre skirmish between the students and Mr.Crowley. Perfectly utilizing what appears to actually be an abandoned high school as a location, Mirajkar capitalizes on the aesthetics even more with an analog look and distinct costume design. -JM.
