Skid Marks

Skid Marks

To help his struggling sister, a young man sells his belongings retrieved by visiting women he’s wronged in the past. Darius D. Dudley directs “Skid Marks,” an off-kilter afternoon with a meandering, SoCal slacker. Missy just got dumped and kicked out by her boyfriend. She goes to Malcolm, her brother, for help. He’s living out of his car but, nonetheless, eager to get his sister back on her feet, and guarantees he’ll find three thousand dollars in less than a few hours. Garage rock and heavy-handed sound effects string us from door-to-door as Malcolm revisits old girlfriends to retrieve possessions he’s left behind—a vintage book, collectible coins, and an old guitar case. Moving with arrogance and an upset stomach, his attitude finally comes back to bite him when the girls confront him in a beachside parking lot. With its fast-paced plotting and punkish tone, it's a stoner comedy with a y2k aesthetic. -JM. Director/Writer: Darius D. Dudley. Cast: Noah Alpers, Anastasia Barkow, Kasey Elliot, Taylor Bazos, Ulysses Yarber. DP: Avinash Patel. Producer: Brendan James Mitchell. Composers: Slum Tenants. Editor: Darius D. Dudley.
