Two old-timey fellas meet up by the pond to do some fishing and determine what’s normal. Alex Goldberg directs “A Joyful Process,” a Steinbeck-esque dark comedy encompassed by melodies of nature and absurd conversation. Bruce (Anthony Oberbeck) and Joe (Ikechukwu Ufomadu) cast their lines out to the water. They chat about fishing, God-given abnormalities, competition, and other odd topics like how long to wash “fruit,” or when they should be petting their “dogs.” Acoustic strings, the baby blue sky, and slithering garter snakes fill in the awkward silences between their conversation, up until the moment they reel in a peculiar fish. With these period-piece characters, the seasoned comedians offer a hilarious back and forth comfortably situated in a lovely outdoor exterior. -JM. Directed and Written by Alex Goldberg.
