A Reason to be Larry

A high-schooler named Larry tries to embrace the harsh reality that he may never be one of the “Great Larrys.” Oszkar Nosek directs “A Reason to be Larry,” a surreal character study of a young man trying to conceptualize his persona. Larry struggles to find confidence toward his own name, especially when considering the likability of the other various celebrities and local legends who, unlike this Larry, have owned their name. Accompanied by a wholesome voiceover that belongs to Larry himself, we observe the young man as he maneuvers his way through what looks like a SoCal suburb. Searching for some bit of reconciliation and embrace from others, Larry tries to make friends with local garage rockers, confides in a mysterious balloon artist, and meets with a fortune teller. Shot on Mini DV, Nosek’s film is paired with some absurd visual sequences, including a 3D dream. -Jinho Myung. Director, Writer, Editor: Oszkar Nosek. Producer: Matthew “Baby” Bickman. Cast: Trout Cohen, Brett Decker, Pete Baker, Jaxon Demme, Luis Antonio Ho, Theodore Adams. Sound Mix: David O’Connell, Clay Hillenburg.
