Fly on the Wall

An inspired photographer tries to connect with the working man. “Fly on the Wall” is the third collaboration from Matt Barats and Doron Max Hagay about struggling artists with misaligned priorities. Each film pinpoints and incisively exaggerates tension between the self-serious artist and the world going on around them. In the latest, Barats plays a photographer named Duncan who thinks his images capturing blue collar workers are an important homage. At an art show speaking with a fellow artist (played hilariously by another NoBudge favorite, Edy Modica), he gets validation for his approach and encouraged to go further. Once on site however, faced with actual working men, he experiences significant pushback. The trilogy began with 2018’s “Improv is Love,” about an improv performer ignoring his sick father, and continued with 2020’s “My Creation,” where an animator is called out for his childish project. -KA. Directed and edited by Doron Max Hagay. Written by and starring Matt Barats. Featuring Edy Modica, George Mcauliffe, David Rey Martinez.
