A man lives in a restaurant where he also works as a waiter. Ian Faria and Edy Modica direct “Waiter Movie: The Short,” a hilarious and oddly endearing portrait of a New York waiter who chops it up with patrons just as well as he waits tables. We meet our old soul Frankie, played by Modica herself, as he chats over an unshared cigarette outside the restaurant. Classy jazz plays as we enter the Italian eatery as Frankie makes the rounds. Brian, a young bartender and seemingly Frankie’s apprentice, forgets to drop the bill at table 10 despite them having already left. He’s recently scraped his ankle so it’s on Frankie to chase down the dashers. From sidewalks and atop roofs, we observe Frankie as he chases the crooks through a beautifully moon-lit Little Italy only to return and tell Brian all about the true story. As a performer, Modica is always fully committed (“Nicole,” “Love is Stinks,” etc), but here she’s on another level as she transforms into a balding man with a gravelly voice. -JM Cast: Edy Modica, Crackhead Barney, Jawnee Conroy, Sefa and Kate Urgenc, and Brian Fiddyment.
