2064: Cloud 9.2
The sequel to Luke Strickler's "2064" imagines a future where our dying brains are uploaded to an online infinity full of big horses, hot gods, and french Pikachus. “2064: Cloud 9.2,” uses a cheap print-out aesthetic to continue exploring an absurd future with mind-expanding projections. In“2064,” a massive data limit had been reached, causing the internet to spill out into the natural world. Here in Strickler’s follow-up, a man who was kicked to death by a horse at the county fair has entered his chosen afterlife thanks to a new brain offloading technology. His artificial heaven is one where he’s always turning 23 years old, and free to do anything he can imagine — turn into a car for instance, or become a woodsman, or a hobbyist collector (there are 45 million collectable items in this heaven). However, there’s a woman he left behind on earth (after the horse incident at the county fair), and despite his never-ending possibilities in this new otherworld, he can’t forget her. Strickler shuffles the deck visually, landing on an entirely different look than the predecessor, but his absurdist vision of a fully branded and bizarre future remains wildly intact.
