An audience of spectators anticipate a spiritual icon’s arrival. Nana Wolke directs “Wanda’s,” an experimental spectacle of minimalist mystique. Trucks and cars cruise the overpass, street lights flicker, and a symphony slowly reaches its crescendo. All under the optic of a deep indigo hue, we observe figures of the night as they celebrate and revel the arrival of the mysterious passenger. The music energizes along with a dancing motion and brief poetic words. In its own form and methods of evocation, Wolke invokes a strange spirit incited by gathering and physical presence. -JM.
