An unknown woman with an unknown trauma grapples with her life as she wanders the streets of Vancouver, B.C. “Mornings You Wake Up,” an experimental film by Case Barden, is a collection of still images that withholds a clear narrative but builds plenty of atmosphere from an evocative soundscape. She wakes up in her car at a park, and makes her way into the city, mumbling to herself, or dipping into a library for awhile. When day turns to night, things begin to unsettle even further. Using a simple technique, the film creates an indelible portrait of a disaffected woman and the spaces she inhabits, full of immediacy and mystery. -KA.
