On their anniversary, a spontaneous sex-tape forces a 30-something couple to confront dormant issues in their relationship. Alex Bliss directs “A Real, Sexual Relationship,” a provocative exploration of the unsatisfied sex life and communication issues between Edy and Eric. After blindfolding her partner, Edy secretly films them having sex on his phone. When Eric discovers the video later, he feels violated and expresses his embarrassment. The fallout reveals a deep rift between their desires and threatens their partnership. Expanding beyond their comedic backgrounds, Edy Modica and Eric Rahill are utterly convincing in a more dramatic role as the quarreling couple. The film further cements Bliss as a penetrating voice capable of tackling touchy subjects with complexity and nuance. Last year’s “Close the Gap” was an equally uncomfortable take on the 2020 BLM protests from the perspective of delusional white person. -KA. Director: Alex Bliss. Writer: Alex Bliss, Edy Modica.
