A man tries to steal from his friends at game night and then things get infinitely worse. Alex Sovoda’s “Circumstantial Forgiveness” follows a frantic friend group as they erupt in outcry when the dirty laundry of two friends is laid out on the table. While the gang engages in a game of dice, Will gets up to no good in the background. When Wes catches him in the act of stealing, he gets put on the hot seat. Quickly defending himself, Will shifts the attention to Wes, accusing him of being a sex-addicted horn-dog with a particular interest in Amelia — the girlfriend of a member of the group. The boys engage in a heated face-to-face interrogation until someone new arrives at the door, taking the tension to a whole new level. Alex Sovoda takes social kerfuffles between young people to hilarious extremes; it’s a chaotic, penetrating style of comedy also observed in his previous works, “Recreational Social Interaction”, and “Compounding Negativity". -JM.
