A young man living a downtrodden life in Los Angeles attempts to have a pleasant, productive day. “Blue Skies,” directed by Jack Krupp, is a mumblecore comedy tracking a man’s mundane but also paralyzing current situation. Sewage water backs up in Jack’s shower drain. His landlord has Covid and can’t fix it. He offers to let Jack use the shower in his place. After rinsing off, Jack meets his French tutor in the park. In a hilarious interaction with another Frenchman, Jack realizes he might be getting cheated. Later, he meets with his screenwriting mentor who tells him to toss out his entire script. An evening hangout with his sister should be chill, but the weight of the day finally gets to him. Krupp, acting and directing, finds both melancholy and humor with an improvised rhythm and L.A. backdrop. -JM. Director + Writer: Jack Krupp. Cast: Jack Krupp, Innocent Osunwa, Frank Renzulli, Emma Krupp. Producer + DP: Max Kopelow. Music: Cormac Liotta. Sound Design: Kais Ali.
