On the day of a cataclysmic event, a young woman begins to act in an increasingly erratic manner. David Fu directs “Eschaton,” a dreamy, 16mm account of a young woman’s drift to another realm. Emily sits on a wooden bench in the middle of a lush, botanical garden. Her boyfriend finds her. They have plans to see a friend. While he goes on and on about a recent boys trip and an upcoming acquisition at work, Emily begins to fade away. The blooming flowers and buzzing flies induce a sensory overload. The sky starts turning grey. Emily hears the sycamore trees speaking to her. It’s all overwhelming. Bright daylight and fine grain serves a surreal atmosphere. Georgia Morgan delivers a compelling presence, finding her character’s quiet cadence and meandering state of mind. -JM. Director, Writer, Editor: David Fu.
