In the Summertime • Drama, Short Films, 07-May-2020
A 15 year old girl struggles through a seemingly mundane day at summer camp in the Florida Everglades. Kali Kahn directs “Fairchild,” an impressionistic character study of Joey, whose severe expressions during group activities juxtapose the carefree giggles and jokes of her campmates and counselors. When we cut to earlier scenes, we see a different side of her - not so withdrawn, active in conversations and games with her peers - and as we piece together the disparity of moods, we’re forced to consider a troubling picture of events. Kahn’s evocative portrayal is carried by natural performances and vibrant editing which ties together loose threads of interiority with a wealth of feeling and emotion. -KA. Director: Kali Kahn.
