A filmmaker returns to the formative places of his Kentucky upbringing to preserve the memories they still hold. “London, KY,” directed by Cody Duncum, is a quiet portrait of home and its evolving role in one’s memory over time. We observe landmarks through wide frames, observing them in their entirety—a childhood home, a middle school pickup line, a local theater, a nearby pond, and more. The places are put into context through captions on the bottom of the screen. We learn where we are, what happened, who was there, and what happened to them. Minimal in form, Duncum pieces together a poignant time capsule, a nuanced look at a fading place in small-town America. Director, Writer, DP, Editor: Cody Duncum, VFX: Emma Cooney.
