An American living in Rome takes a trip to Umbria after a spontaneous invite from a childhood friend. Daniela Garza directs “A Place Between us,” a stylish summer excursion that portrays a couple of days of warm weather pleasures mixed with nostalgia and ennui. When Fiore decides to leave a work project in Rome to join her old friend, Carmela, at her family’s Italian villa, they spend time reliving childhood joys—swimming, riding bikes, eating ice cream in old town centers. But something’s different now for Fiore. She can’t quite pinpoint it but a feeling of vague dissatisfaction pervades. Garza’s film is a snapshot on female friendship where the characters are well-dressed and the views picturesque—it’s elegant but not stuffy as it maintains an air of leisure and childhood innocence. -KA. Writer & Director: Daniela Garza. Cast: Diana Bingham, Mariavittoria Ennati. DP: Leo Hsu. Editor: Holly Thiel. Producer: Lisa Liu. Score: Tobias Defoe, Yeejin Yuk. Costume Design: Elettra Simos.
