A girl, her big sister, and God go to extreme measures to win a beauty pageant. Max Tullio directs “All Beauty Queens Have Broken Bones,” a coming-of-age drama set in the Midwest where a pair of siblings try to decipher signs from God. Marlo has a vision of competing in the Miss Teen Indiana Pageant. Rose, her big sister, is doubtful at first, but chugging beer gets her on board and leads to an idea: a pity vote. Together, the sisters take matters into their own hands and the story unfolds from the narration of the older sister, played by Betsey Brown. It’s moody portrait that moves quickly and twists rationale and stomachs. -JM. Director: Max Tullio. Writer: Max Tullio. Based on a Story By Madeline Cash.
