An awkward teenager in Park Slope, Brooklyn goes out one night in search of a boy, any boy, to bring home and prove to her sister she’s actually normal. Sophia Bennett Holmes directs “Big Crush,” a coming-of-age vignette that captures the tentative expressions of a teen girl on a weekend when her parents are away. When her sister barges into Grace’s room — startling her as she scrolls through internet videos of an odd fetish — she implores her to leave the house for a couple hours to give her some privacy with her boyfriend. Grace blurts out that she’s got a friend coming over herself, then wanders through the neighborhood on a scooter trying to find one. Carried by wonderfully understated performances, Bennett Holmes' film is filled with nuance and naturalism as it explores sisterly tensions and bodily fascinations. -KA. Director, Writer, Editor: Sophia Bennett Holmes. Starring Emily Featherman, Michael Mcbride, Maddie Brown. Director of Photography: Zenzele Ojore. Producer, Assistant Director: Gabriela Azevedo. Sound Mixer: Cade Featherstone.
