An aspiring musician tries to handle his relationships with co-workers and family obligations while preparing for an upcoming show. A deadpan drama-comedy by Eric Peterson, “Big Things” authentically portrays the world of an upstart musician in a small city. Working at a sports apparel company as he releases under-the-radar songs on the internet, the mild-mannered Sam mostly keeps to himself, although he does attempt to establish a new work friendship, and get people to listen to his music. The feeling (or delusion) of being on the verge of artistic success is perfectly captured, in its brief excitements followed by disappointments. When Sam finally gets around to calling his grandfather on his birthday, things take an unexpected turn. Shot on film, in Winnipeg, Canada, Peterson’s film is an understated, quietly funny portrait filled with awkward exchanges and idiosyncratic behavior. -KA. Director: Eric Peterson. Cast: Sam Singer, Tavis Putnam, Matt Jones, Maria Voulgaris, Igal Rodrigues, Brooklyn Alice Lee, Tom Putnam. Screenplay: Eric Peterson & Sam Singer. Director of Photography: Jesse De Rocquigny. Editor: Eric Peterson & Jesse De Rocquginy. Music: Sam Singer. Sound: Tom Groom.
