A glimpse at the goings-on of a 21-year-old in Brooklyn interrupted by a sojourn to North Carolina. Liam Barton directs “Blatant Interest,” a 16mm hangout film comprising a series of brief vignettes and electronica interludes. Beer cans litter Lyle’s rooftop. Instead of beginning the day with a cleanup, the young man coasts from street corner to coffee shop, mostly motivated by casual hook-ups with a friend named Lily. Back in his hometown of Raleigh, NC, a dentist appointment calls his name. Down south he rolls around town in his buddy’s F150, eating at a diner, shopping at a thrift store, and shooting guns. Upon returning to the city, it all seems to repeat once again — conversations over beverages, make-outs with his girlfriend, and musical jam sessions. It’s both comedic and free-spirited in its youthful vision of a weekend expedition and low stakes day-to-day living. -JM. Director: Liam Barton Cast: Findlay Fullarton, Isolde Edminster-Genet, Mylean Raeder DP: Grace Conrad, Editor: Liam Barton, Producer: Liam Barton and Grace Conrad, AD: Eli Gutierrez.
