A young woman mourning the loss of her cat receives an unexpected visitor. “Catlady” directed by Max Roux is an atmospheric elegy, a portrait of grief that spins into the surreal, carried by a spellbinding performance from Jade Louise. With tears streaming down her face, she buries her beloved cat in the backyard, and when the deed is done, the heartbreak isn’t going anywhere. Later that night, a mysterious figure appears in her home with a message, an opportunity to reckon with the passing. This strange and strangely sweet short film rides on the commitment of Louise throwing herself into an emotional whirlwind and delusional response, making it entirely real. The wistful and haunting score (by Louise and Grant Martz) melds perfectly with the mixture of emotions and tension swirling around her dream-like evening. -KA. Directed by Max Roux. Starring Jade Louise. Written and Produced by Nicholas Laskin and Max Roux. Cinematography by Marshall Douglis. Original Music by Jade Louise and Grant Martz. Sound Design by Jonathan Corona.
