Comedy, Mystery, Short Films, 21-Feb-2024
A landscaper finds something in the dirt that leads down a rabbit hole. Dave Paige directs “Cuxball,” an eerie comedy about an odd discovery and the mystery and paranoia it reveals. At an early morning landscaping job, Sam finds a cassette tape buried in the ground under some weeds. After Sam manages to hear what’s on the cassette, they’re led to a Bingo Hall where a strange performance takes place. On-stage, men dressed in bird costumes dance to the rhythm and commands of an eccentric organizer. When the leader of the group hones in on Sam, they try to piece together what it all means. With a suspenseful, discomforting tone, the film is carried by the understated performance of River L. Ramirez, whom we’ve featured several times. (“Avocado,” “I Love My Friends,” etc.) -JM. Director: Dave Paige. Cast: River L. Ramirez, Natalie Palamides, Will Hines, Emilia Richeson-Valiente. Director of Photography: Marco Cordero. Editor: Clay Lorant Saldaña. Original Music: Nate Heller. Costume Design: Briana Jorgensøn. Producer: Amanda Schulz, Dave Paige.
