Short Films, Sci-Fi, 04-Jan-2023
On New Year's Eve 2080, a new age radiologist travels from outer space to Earth to practice some desert yoga. Grace Sloan directs “Death Valley,” a scrappy sci-fi oddity built with charmingly hand-crafted sets and analog VFX. Floating through space in a one-person capsule, Zadie video chats with her friend (played by Tallie Medel) about a NYE party before zapping down to Earth to take scientific measurements and do some Yoga at sunset. But the dangers of Earth are many and soon Zadie runs into trouble. Sloan’s film is a minimalist, free-roaming affair that moves from deadpan comedic to psychedelic and beyond. -KA. Director: Grace Sloan. Cast: Norma Kuhling, Tallie Medel. Director of Photography: Laura Valladao. Producers: Lindsay Blair Goeldner, Alun Lee. Gaffer + Pod Person: Spenser Nottage. Score: LRKR.
