In this EDM musical, a young man does everything he can to avoid another horrible breakup. In “Heart Failure,” director Will Wightman spins a catchy pop extravaganza from an unlikely place: Gen Z’s take on modern dating and breakups. It’s impeccably crafted and energetic, filled with charismatic performances and vivid lyricism. Frank meets Lizzie and they quickly develop a passionate romance. But before long, something has shifted, and Frank begins to feel a distance creeping in. As paranoia and insecurity build, he tries to confide in his roommate (who refuses to be a part of this song and dance), and otherwise get to the bottom of what so quickly changed. Wightman also created the music, which coalesces perfectly around stylish images and snappy pacing, headlong melodies that feel jubilant even when projecting heartbreak. -KA. Written, directed, edited by Will Wightman. Produced: Cleo Yeomans. Executive Producer: Lucas A. Ferrara. Starring Leon Newman, Izzie Frymann, Harry Hancock. Cinematographer: Will Marchant. Art Direction: Grace Fortune. Colour: Marco Caminiti. 1st Ad: Georgia Cunnigham.
