Reflecting on his lustful youth, a 30-year-old man gets answers from his mother about his early fascination with life-sized Barbie dolls and scantily clad models. “Horny Kid - A Film Essay,” directed by Josh Whiteman, is a priceless compilation of home videos shot in the 1990’s merged with current day footage of the filmmaker speaking with his mother, reckoning with his current love life. The childhood footage of Josh captures a fixation with pretty women. One Christmas morning, the young boy is heartbroken that Santa did not bring him a three and a half foot dancing Barbie. The devastation is palpable but new crushes emerge via Victoria Secret catalogs and daytime soap operas. Crafting a delicate balance between lighthearted and somewhat melancholic, it’s a film about identity in childhood and how that reverberates through adult life. -KA. Director, DP, Editor: Josh Whiteman. Producers: Josh Whiteman and Caroline Buchholz. Starring: Samantha Hearn. Music by Oliver Hopkins and Meg Webb. Re-recording Mixer: Nick Morelly. Stunt Coordinator: Joe Romero. Stunt Double: Mark Edward Johnson.
