A woman attempts to re-caulk her bathtub. “How to Re-Caulk Your Tub,” directed by Sean Pierce, is a parody of a YouTube tutorial which begins as a straight-forward instructional video and devolves into an existential freak out. The woman, played by Alex Moorman, sets out to refresh her temple of cleansing body and soul (i.e. her bathroom) by re-sealing her tub. Beginning to filter in though is a creeping unease — bright lights flash as she agonizes in self-doubt, about the struggles of aging and body image, et al. Her paranoia and anxiety threatens to overwhelm the task (“no one survives”) but can she keep the demons at bay to find out if her project was successful? The film is a clever and affecting mashup carried by the committed performance of Moorman and a herky jerky rhythm that mirrors the chaos of modern life. -KA.
