When aliens land in America looking for a female virgin to abduct, a sexually repressed young woman desperately attempts to lose her virginity. “Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary,” directed by Rachael Moton, is a lighthearted satire filled with clever details about a world where body autonomy has vanished. When news comes across the wire that all women over the age of 25 will be mandated to prove they aren’t virgins, Mary Matthews panics. Once her alien exam is scheduled, the race is on to find a suitor and consummate their relationship to avoid the aforementioned abduction. But a series of awkward dates test her will and remind her why she’s a virgin to begin with. Self-deprecating and absurd, Moton’s film is elevated with colorful production design and free-spirited aesthetic shifts (see: shadow puppets). -KA. Director: Rachael Moton. Cast: Mack Breeden, Kylar Miranda, Lowell Abellon, Markus Jorgensen. DP: Tehillah De Castro. Editor Nour Oubeid. Executive Producer: Shelby Rachleff. Producers: Gia Rigoli, Coral Brook.
