The only remaining episode of Sad Kidz TV, a Canadian after-school cartoon block with the fun-loving host Shane, exploring the deep melancholy it takes to be a kid. Directed by Alexander Laird and Alexander Swift, “Sad Kids,” mocks up a zany kids show, and it would be a near perfect replica if not for the the slippages of profanity (“cunt-faced, shit-take 10 year old”) and other questionably appropriate material for kids. An animated segment called All About Florida with Kristee-lee!, is a series of fun facts about the Sunshine State, like that the official animal of Florida is “a dead alligator in an above ground swimming pool.” In Game Zone, Shane instructs kids how to get a glimpse of a girl’s bra in the video game, Hentai High 2. It’s a scattershot affair, filled with hilarious details floating in and out of frame (“If finished masterbat Press (F) to Continue”), and the requisite awkward live segment where a skateboarder barely does a trick and the host pretends it’s really cool. Once the show is over (a 3 hour broadcast from a Wednesday), we’re not quite done yet, as the film zooms out from show to viewer. -KA. A film by Sensitive Athletes. Directors: Alexander Laird, Alexander Swift. Cast: Shane Azam, Veronika Slowikowska. Voice Cast: Alexander Swift, Veronika Slowikowska, Rowan Kelly. Cinematographer: Gabriela Osio Vanden. Editors: Alexander Laird, Victor Hamulka. Composer: Alexander Swift.
