Emily Kaplan’s “Spare Parts,” in which she also stars, explores a young woman confronted with surprising intimacy. Kaplan plays a nomadic grifter who speeds from one brief encounter to the next, pocketing what spare change, electronics, jewelry, etc. she can before moving on to the next hit. One night in a dingy bar, she picks up a drunk, seemingly unstable woman. As she heads back to her latest “victim’s” motel room, she finds an unexpected connection that gets in the way of business as usual...but not for long. The camerawork in “Spare Parts” mirrors the sense of expanded isolation in contrast with intimate moments as we ride along on this winding adventure. -Caryn Coleman. Director, writer, actor, editor: Emily Kaplan. Writer, actor: Samantha Levitt. Director of Photography: Nona Catusanu. Editor: Perry Blackshear. Sound Designer: Phil Abbott. Production Designer: Hannah Rothfield. Producer: Judith Posey.
