While stuck at home during lockdown, a Russian woman living in L.A. ponders how to stay busy and convince herself everything’s okay. “Stay At Home Movie,” made by Sasha Lebedeva — she writes, shoots, edits, color grades, and stars — is a simple but stylish self-portrait of boredom and restlessness during Covid-19. A film made during quarantine being released during quarantine (countless others are out there, most of them oppressively dire), Lebedeva’s film finds success in staying light, focusing on the quirky and visually pleasing. She pines for the outdoors, wonders what her neighbors are up to, considers taking a dance class. And washes her hands. And then washes her hands again. Part video diary, part homemade fashion film, the soft glow visuals and rotating looks accompany Lebedeva’s endearingly self-reflexive narration. -KA. Director, writer, DP, editor, starring Sasha Lebedeva. Original Music: Oguz Ozkan. Other cast: Ryan Gray.
